This film was the final pairing of John Wayne (Rocklin) and George 'Gabby' Hayes (Dave) on screen. The two long times on and off screen friends had first worked together on "Riders of Destiny" (1933). Hayes was billed as just George Hayes, played Charlie Denton and Wayne played the role of singing cowboy and gunslinger Singin' Sandy Saunders. The two actors were very close in real life. Wayne's children thought of Hayes as an uncle and Hayes often described Wayne as the son he always wanted.

One of 23 films in which old friends John Wayne and Ward Bond appeared together.

As he gets up from the poker table, one of the players says, "Include me out." This was a "Goldwynism," one of the mixed-up sayings made by or attributed to producer Sam Goldwyn, such as "An oral contract isn't worth the paper it's written on."

Ben Johnson, during his stuntman days, briefly doubles for John Wayne while Wayne's regular double ,Fred Graham, doubles for Harry Woods in a fight with Wayne.

This was the first John Wayne film to be shown on American network television.

Continuity

When someone attempts to bushwhack John Wayne's character, the bullet misses him and goes through his hat. Right after the shot it shows John removing his hat to knock out the light on the table and there is no hole. One only appears later...and only on its left side.

Prior to the scene where Rocklin climbs out the window when Clint gets shot, Rocklin does not have his gun belt. After he jumps to the street, Rocklin is holding his gun belt.

Revealing mistakes

When Arly angrily kicks the torn letter across the floor of Line Shack there are marks on floor from previous takes before she makes new marks.

Obvious stunt doubles during the fight between Rocklin and Garvey in his office.

Anachronisms

A lady objects to the stage driver's invitation to get out and "stretch her legs," as a Victorian lady would. But she tells him not to talk about her "legs." She would not use such an immodest word. She would refer to her "limbs" or "lower limbs."

Miss Martin wears a jacket with revers that match the blouse underneath. This is the style of a dressmaker suit that first appeared in the 1930s.
