Revenge Of The Pink Panther (1978)
To prove that he still is strong and powerful, Philippe Douvier decides to kill Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Once Clouseau's death has been announced, the former Chief Inspector, Charles Dreyfus, feels much, much better and is released from the mental hospital. Jacques Clouseau tries to take advantage of his "death" and goes under cover with Cato to find out who tried to assassinate him.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the movies...
Chief Insp. Jacques Clouseau: [Dreyfus shoots a gun at Clouseau a couple times] It's me!
Chief Insp. Dreyfus: I know! [Dreyfus laughs and starts shooting again]

While shooting in Hong Kong, a policeman saw Burt Kwouk steal a motor scooter and actually chased and arrested him. It took several hours to convince the cop that it was for a movie.
If Peter Sellers had not died, the next film in the franchise after this one, the sixth in the series, would have likely been "Romance of the Pink Panther".
Peter Sellers' final official appearance as Inspector Clouseau. The next sequel, (Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)), consisted of outtakes and unused scenes from The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976).
This movie and Heaven Can Wait (1978) marked the return to the screen for Dyan Cannon, who had been on a four-year hiatus. She once said: "It's so much fun filming a Pink Panther. We just laugh our way through each day's shooting".
Reportedly, both Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards had said that the previous Pink Panther movie, The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), would be their last. Then, within two months, Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978) was in development.
Continuity
When Douvier asks Simone to 'come in here for a moment' there is a lamp, bust and two golden animals on his desk. Simone enters and there is a different shot of his desk - those three items are now in completely different places relative to each other.
When Clouseau and Cato are trying to get into "Le Club Foote", they go crashing through the window of a bakery. A little later on, they go through the same hole again, yet this time there is a large undamaged wedding cake sitting there for Cato to land in; the cake couldn't have survived the first accident.
Three Hong Kong pedestrians evade Cato's motorcycle twice as he drives uncontrollably down a rough, sloping road.
When Dreyfus and the commissioner are discussing Clouseau's supposed death, Dreyfus is holding open a pink file and there is a white folder on the desk. The shot switches to Dreyfus standing up; the pink file he is holding is now closed and another pink file is on top of the white folder on the desk.
When Tanya the Lotus Eater first enters, she's brandishing a long cigarette holder. After a couple of quick cuts, it disappears.
Factual errors
In Simone's apartment after the two thugs try to kill her, the liquid in the two glasses that she's holding are different colors, even though they were supposedly poured from the same bottle.
When Simone is rescued outside "Le Club Foote", she hits one of her abductors in the head with a brick, which she then drops from her hand onto herself, but she does not wince, which one would if a brick of that size drops on your lap; clearly indicating it is a fake brick.
Fire sprinklers are activated by heat not smoke as shown; and all the sprinklers do not all go off at once.
Revealing mistakes
During the car chase scene on the way to the Lee Key boatyard as the large Mercedes limousine and Ford Cortina police car approach the camera, both vehicles can be seen tethered to each other just as the scene finishes.
During the getaway in the small white car, the car explodes before it hits the tree.
A crash mat is visible when Clouseau and Cato crash through the bakery window while trying to save Simone at the disco.
When shooting at Clouseau on the docks, Dreyfus has what appears to be a .357 Colt Python. Later, in the fireworks warehouse, he has an ordinary .38, possibly a Colt or Smith and Wesson.
Clouseau himself obviously lights the paper on fire in the Chief's office. Just before being handed the paper, his left hand, which is away from the camera on the other side of his body, appears to dip into his left trouser pocket. Then when he is handed the paper, he has to turn it around so that a particular side is facing him, but he does it awkwardly with only his right hand, with the paper still laying on the table, using two spinning movements with his right hand to turn the paper and keeping his left hand hidden (the natural response is to hold it with both hands while turning it). Keeping the left hand hidden from view is awkward and shows that he is hiding something in it. And since the camera is too far away to show any writing on the paper, the only reason for turning it is because it is likely a piece of paper with one edge containing a flammable material to make it easier to light, and he has to turn it so that his hidden hand holding the lighter can light that edge without being seen. Then when the paper catches on fire (and it does so rapidly, and it spreads very fast, while a normal piece of paper would catch fire much more slowly and not spread so quickly, proving that the one edge of the paper clearly contained a flammable substance - in addition, a piece of paper normally wouldn't burn without holding it vertical so that the flame spreads upwards, but this piece of paper is held horizontal while the flames spread quickly, further proof of a flammable substance being added to the paper's edge), the part of his left arm that is visible clearly moves in a way to reveal that he is lighting the paper, probably with a lighter. Immediately after lighting it, the movement of his left arm betrays him pocketing the lighter.
Audio/visual unsynchronized
When the hitchhiker pulls off her wig and pretends to be a man, her voice changes to that of a man's voice and is clearly a totally different voice, not just a disguised voice, and the lip movements do not match the words further proving that the man's voice is being dubbed.
Crew or equipment visible
Around 00:21:08, we can see camera's shadow on the wall to the left, during travelling.
Plot holes
When Clouseau arrives at his apartment after his supposed death, only a few hours have passed since news of that event hit, but Kato has completely transformed the apartment and started a business there which already has regulars as if he has been gone for months.
Douvier, obviously a sharp business man, has trouble recognizing Clouseau when Clouseau is wearing a not so hidden disguise as a mafia don, especially when he's seen his face on the front page of the newspaper when they decide to have him killed.
In the former film The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus was disintegrated by the doomsday machine. No explanation is given to his presence, alive and well, in this film.
