Jason Statham has expressed his love for The Expendables. On co-star Sylvester Stallone, he said "Working with Sylvester Stallone is beyond a pinch yourself moment. I remember growing up watching his films, and to be directed by him, and to be in a movie that he's produced, and to be shoulder to shoulder with Sly is a privilege any man who loves action movies would never turn their nose up at. I mean, it's terrific. I'll do as many as he wants."

While promoting the DVD/Blu-ray release of The Expendables 3 (2014), Sylvester Stallone already commented that if a fourth film were to happen, it would definitely be R-rated, unlike the PG-13 rated The Expendables 3. As he stated on the matter: "Absolutely unequivocally yes. I believe it was a horrible miscalculation on everyone's part in trying to reach a wider audience, but in doing such, diminish the violence that the audience expects. I'm quite certain it won't happen again."

Sylvester Stallone's first choice for the villain was Jack Nicholson.

Sylvester Stallone confirmed this is the first of a new trilogy.

Filming for this movie wrapped on October 15, 2021, this will be the first Expendables film to have any scenes shot in the United Kingdom. Sylvester Stallone has said that he's "taking a backseat" for this movie as Jason Statham's character Lee Christmas will be the central character in this movie.

Continuity

Throughout the movie Gina (played by Megan Fox) has hair that changes from dark brown, to black, and back again. The hair also changes from curly to wavy and back and forth.

None of the Expendables members are wearing bullet proof head helmets even though they are being shot at and also sometimes at head level. The bullets just fly by them.

Factual errors

The team is shown staging and departing for the mission from Hong Kong, with the north shore of Hong Kong Island in clear view of the airfield. The Chinese government would never allow a team of mercenaries, especially working for American intelligence, to operate from Chinese soil, nor would the team be able to hide their departure by plane from the authorities.

Plot holes

Christmas turns a big container ship 180 degrees by dragging it around an anchor hooked to a big rock on the sea floor. Not only is that not how anchors hold a ship in place, the chain would've snapped instantly.

Character error

None of the Expendables members are wearing bullet proof head helmets even though they are being shot at and also sometimes at head level. The bullets just fly by them.

Just before the bar fight, Christmas asks Barney for a word. He says: "Obstinate". Christmas deems this too long and asks for another. Barney now says: "Dumbbells", which is the exact same word length, but Christmas accepts it.
