Bruce Beresford wrote extensively about this film in his recent memoir, "Josh Hartnett Definitely Wants To Do This". The production was apparently deeply troubled, and Beresford was well aware that the script didn't make sense. The producers closed the shoot down after fifty days, and Beresford was forced to use his own money to complete the film.

Distributed as a straight-to-DVD release in the U.S. and most other markets.

According to Bruce Beresford in a book he wrote, Steven Seagal asked for a supporting role, but was declined.

(at around 50 mins) The nude figure climbing out of the river is not Megan Dodds. A body double was used.

Ned Bellamy and Morgan Freeman acted in The Shawshank Redemption (1994).

Continuity

Everyone's (especially the bad guys) clothes stay clean and neat even after spending the night in the wet forest without shelter, helicopter crash, etc. Frank's suit seems to stay pressed no matter what.

(at around 22 mins) After getting out of the river, both Carden's and the U.S. Marshal's jackets were mostly dry.

The rain is out of sync allot of the time when the scenes are switching back and forth in the early part of the movie. Especially since everyone should be in a fairly close area.

At about 40 minutes, it's said there were two dead Marshalls. There were four in the car originally transporting Frank (Freeman) It's actually three dead Marshalls, the passenger side one that went to investigate the truck with the flat tire he got shot in the chest; the driver who was shot in the head trying to escape, and the car went over the cliff; and the one who was in the back seat and died in the river when Ray (Cusack) finds them. They only knew of two at that point. The one in the river had not yet been found, so they don't assume that he is dead as well.

Factual errors

(at around 11 mins) The vehicles in the accident weren't moving nearly fast enough to have flipped, etc. as they did.

Just over an hour in, in the space of 2 seconds, a baddie shoots over a dozen rounds toward Ray from only a few yards away, manages to hit both trees multiple times that he's standing between, yet miraculously misses Ray with every shot of his finely spread spray of bullets. Ray must have taken the 'dance between the raindrops' course during his brief stint in law enforcement.

Revealing mistakes

It is reported to the FBI onsite that there were just three sets of foot prints leading from the river, when actually there would have been more due to the bad guys converging on the area where Ray pulled Frank and the Marshall out of the water.

(at around 1h 23 mins) When the shootings occur in the woods at the funeral, a silenced rifle is used. However, the shootings occur close enough to the funeral that you can clearly hear the service, so the funeral attendees should be able to clearly hear even a silenced gunshot (silencers don't work like the movies depict, the shot is still identifiable as a shot, just not as loud: it's not a soft pop, especially not with a rifle).

(at around 55 mins) After the close up of Lockland and Sandra losing their balance on the bridge they go to a wide shot showing Carden following them. He then is seen helping Sandra up. At that point one hand crosses the other and he appears to have no handcuffs on. Realizing his mistake the actor quickly returns his hands to handcuffed position.

Chris, Ray, and Frank scale a cliff on a mountain in the middle of nowhere in the night in a rainstorm. The rainstorm means that there is a thick cloud cover and therefore there is not even any moonlight. Yet in such poor lighting conditions the three of them are able to find the grabs and toe holes to scale a cliff face made slippery with flowing water. Not even experienced climbers would attempt such a feat.

Chris and Ray get Frank into a cave in a mountain in the middle of nowhere in a rainstorm at night. The rainstorm means that there is a thick cloud cover and therefore there is not even any moonlight. All of this means that there is an absolute dearth of light and under such circumstances one could not even see their hand in front of their face. Yet, Frank is able to jump Ray, and Frank and Ray are able to land punches on each other. Thank goodness for the director's blue light which allow them to see each other and the viewers to see them.

Errors in geography

(at around 1h 29 mins) At the barbecue, a DJ announces the radio station's call-sign as "WKGV." This is geographically incorrect. In Washington State, and most of the U.S. states west of the Mississippi River, radio station call-signs begin with the letter K.

The police helicopters' registrations start with "LZ" which means they are registered in Bulgaria, not the US which have an "N". Meaning it has not been filmed in the Washington State forests but in Bulgaria.

(at around 38 mins) When Johnson gives their coordinates via radio to Davis, he says "40.083 North, 25.55 West". That's in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, between Europe and North America. Washington state, where the movie is supposed to take place, lies approximately between Western longitudes 117 and 124 and Northern latitudes 46 and 49.

There are no Dunkin' Donuts in Washington state.

Plot holes

If someone wants to call 911, but has no signal, it is federal law that another provider with a good signal puts the call through. So, the audience knows there is no signal/provider in the area (at 23 minutes) when Chris tries to phone 911 and tells his dad that there is no service. At 25 minutes, Ray (dad) tries to call while walking to the parking lot, but again, there is no service. Later on in the movie, deep in the forest, one of the bad guys uses his laptop multiple times to push the plot foreword. For example, he watches a streaming video. The plot does not explain how this is possible, since the audience assumes there is no service at all for calling or internet.

Character error

(at around 1h 25 mins) After Carden kills Davis in the woods at the funeral with Davis' rifle, Carden wipes the finger prints off and leaves the rifle. Immediately following, he encounters Keene who demands the whereabouts of his son. Carden hands him the key to the room where the boy is held. Carden's fingerprints are all over the very large placard attached to the key.
